Final Report on the Course of the International Professional Gardening Fair, Green World 2008

At the beginning of September the hall C at Brno’s fair grounds was livened up with flowers, greenery and gardening technology for the third time. The ninth annual gardening fair Green World took place there. The fact that every inch of the exhibition area in the basement of the hall C was going to be full was clear already at the beginning of August because the interest in attending to the Gardening Fair was again greater than in the last year. This year we used also the outside exhibition area.

The ceremonial opening of the fair took place on Friday, September 5, from 10 a.m. with the attendance of the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Veletrhy Brno, a.s, Ing. Aleš Pohl, representatives of organizations that took over the sponsorship of this year’s fair: the Chairman of the Czech Association of Flower Sellers and Florists, Ing. Jiří Horák, and the Chairman of the Czech Nursery Growers’ Association, Ing. Jiří Veleba, Ing. Jana Šimečková from the Association of Maintenance and Planting Greenery, Ing. Martin Sedláček, the Director of Profi Press s.r.o. – the medial partner of the fair and the representatives of the Association of Gardening Exhibitions, Vlastimil Pasič and Ing. Jaroslav Hunkes.

This year 81 exhibitors (16 more than last year) from seven European countries presented themselves at the Green World (The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Austria, France and Holland) on the total exhibition area of 1,598 m2, which is 472 m2 more than in the previous year. Plant nursery companies and flower producers had the greatest representation, but the number of companies specializing in gardening technology and garden design has increased.

This year’s accompanying program was placed into one central area. Friday’s program was dedicated to specialized presentations. The top attraction was a talk by Mr. Ian Boardman from the UK, who shared with his listeners his long-term experience in the management and marketing of garden centers. Furthermore, the representatives of Syngenta Czech, s.r.o. and Bruno Nebelung GmbH companies presented an offer of their selection of flowers for the upcoming season.

On Saturday the area of the accompanying program transformed into a flower hall where Mr. Slávek Rabušic (Jury member of the Czech Republic Floristics Championship), Jaromír Kokeš (Floristics Champion of the Czech Republic 2008) and the winners of the Czech Republic Floristics Junior Championship 2008 – Markéta Nagyová and Vojtěch Lazecký presented their skills.

A total of 1,897 registered visitors attended the ninth year of the Green World Fair of whom almost 70% were from the professional public.

The growing trend in interest in the Green World Fair was also confirmed this year and the gardening world already counts with this specialized event, which was confirmed by the visit of the representatives of the Essen Gardening Fair IPM, one of the most important European fairs in this field. It is a challenge for us to improve the professional level of this event for the upcoming jubilee tenth anniversary that will take place at the same location from September 4 to 5, 2009.
